Why Grade Makes or Breaks a Louisiana Project

South Louisiana gets heavy, fast rain, and the land is flat enough that water has nowhere to go unless you give it somewhere. Grading is how you do that. A properly graded site moves water away from your foundation, keeps your driveway from washing, and stops the standing water that ruins a yard and undermines a slab.

We grade for drainage first — establishing fall, crowning where it is needed, and compacting fill so it does not settle later. Get the dirt work right and everything built on top of it lasts. Get it wrong and you are fighting water for years.

What is the difference between grading and dirt work?
They overlap. Dirt work is the broad term for moving soil — cut, fill, hauling, and shaping. Grading is the finish step that sets the final slope and level. We handle both, from rough cut to fine finish grade.
Can you fix a yard that holds water?
Usually, yes. Standing water is almost always a grade problem. We re-establish slope away from the house, fill the low spots with compacted dirt, and shape the ground so water drains. On tougher lots we add drainage as part of the sitework.
Do you supply the fill dirt?
Yes. We supply and place quality fill dirt and haul off excess. The amount and type depend on your site, and it is all spelled out in the estimate so there are no surprise material charges.
Do you compact the fill?
We do. Uncompacted fill settles and cracks whatever sits on it. We place and compact fill in lifts so the pad or grade stays put under a slab, driveway, or building.
How much does grading and dirt work cost?
It depends on how much dirt moves, whether fill is imported or hauled off, site access, and the finish you need. We walk the property, scope it, and give you a free written estimate up front.
