Land Clearing in Bush, LA

Serving Bush · St. Tammany Parish

Your Bush Contractor: From Raw Land to Finished Build

Bush is an unincorporated community in northeastern St. Tammany Parish, on LA 21 south of Sun. With no town government, parish rules apply directly to land here. The Census Bureau's 2023 five year estimates put about 5,150 residents in the 70431 ZIP code area. If your land near Bush is wooded, a homesite or mobile home lot starts with land clearing.

From US 190 in Covington, where we are based, Bush is about 14 miles up LA 21. LA 40 comes in from Folsom, and LA 41 comes up from Pearl River through Hickory and Talisheek. About 1.45 miles north of Bush, LA 21 crosses the Bogue Chitto River on its way to Sun and Bogalusa. We hold LA State Lic# 78829 and are fully insured, with over 20 years on Northshore ground.

Clearing Land in Bush Under Parish Rules

West of Bush, LA 40 is a rural road, met by Old Military Road and Ben Williams Road. On a wooded tract out here, our dozer and excavators clear the trees and stumps from the pad site. Where you want trees kept, forestry mulching grinds the underbrush in place with a skid steer mulcher. The parish land clearing rules bar open burning of clearing debris within 1,000 feet of an occupied home.

In Bush, a single family home on a lot of 5 acres or more needs a parish land clearing permit. A homesite under 5 acres that is not part of a platted subdivision is exempt from the parish land clearing rules. Forestry or farm work on 5 acres or more needs the permit too. Confirm your own tract with the parish before work starts, and we handle the paperwork with you.

Dirt Pads and Highway Driveways in Bush

About 1 in 4 homes in the 70431 ZIP code area is a mobile home. For a new mobile home, we build the compacted dirt pad, and the installer sets it and ties it down. A slab home or shop gets a house pad, and we can pour the concrete slab on it. Our own dump trucks bring in fill dirt by the truckload, including clay for pads.

We build gravel and limestone driveways and set the driveway culvert that carries the ditch water under the drive. On LA 21, LA 40 or LA 41, all state highways, work on a new drive waits for DOTD approval. You start the request with the DOTD district permit specialist for your area, and we work through it with you. Before any digging, Louisiana law requires a call to 811 at least 2 full business days ahead.

Questions From Bush Property Owners

A few of the questions we hear most around Bush. Don’t see yours? Call us, we’re happy to help.

Call (985) 966-2584

Do you take land clearing jobs in Bush?
Yes. Bush is about 14 miles up LA 21 from US 190 in Covington, our home base. That is well inside the roughly 50 mile radius we work. The same radius takes in Talisheek and Hickory on LA 41, and Blond and Pilgrims Rest toward Folsom. Estimates are free, and we quote each job after a site visit.
What changes if my land is near the Bogue Chitto River?
The Bogue Chitto is a Louisiana natural and scenic river under state law. When LDWF, the state wildlife agency, requires no permit, the parish buffer along it is 100 feet from the bank. Under brushing, or clearing the underbrush, inside that buffer needs an LDWF scenic review permit. A blue line stream on the USGS map keeps at least 50 feet, and an intermittent one at least 35. These buffers belong to projects under the parish land clearing rules, so confirm your own tract with the parish.
How much is the parish land clearing permit?
The parish fee is $250. Clearing without a required permit brings a fine of double the fee for a first offense. A second offense costs 4 times the fee. Whether your tract needs the permit depends on lot size and use, so confirm it with the parish first. We work through the paperwork with you.
Can you build a dirt pad for a mobile home in Bush?
Yes. We clear the spot and build a compacted dirt pad with clay our own dump trucks haul in. The installer sets the home and ties it down, so get the pad size from your installer first. Before the first load, check your tract with the parish, since net fill is banned in any critical drainage area. Those areas include FEMA A and V flood zones and wetlands.
What rules cover a new driveway culvert in Bush?
A drive onto a state highway like LA 21 needs DOTD approval before work begins. For a drive off a parish road, the parish culvert requirements call for a pipe sized for a 10 year storm and at least 15 inches across. It must be an LADOTD approved type, and a metal pipe must be bituminous coated. The parish holds the property owner responsible for the work and its costs. Questions go to the parish Department of Engineering before work starts, and we plan the culvert with you.
