Stump Grinding & Removal in Covington, LA

Stump Grinding · Covington, LA

Gone for Good — Below the Grade

A leftover stump is more than an eyesore — it is a trip hazard, a termite magnet, and a dead spot you cannot mow, pave, or build on. W2 Commercial Construction provides stump grinding and removal across Covington, Mandeville, Hammond, Slidell and across the Northshore, grinding stumps several inches below grade so you can reclaim the space for good.

Whether it is one stubborn stump in the backyard or dozens left from a land clearing job, we grind them out, clear the roots where needed, and can backfill the hole so the spot is ready to seed, pave, or build. For full-lot jobs we tie it straight into forestry mulching and grading.

  • Single-stump & whole-lot grinding

Grinding vs. Full Removal

Grinding chews the stump down several inches below the surface with a cutting wheel, leaving the roots to break down naturally. It is faster, cleaner, and far less disruptive to the surrounding yard than digging the whole root ball out. For most homeowners and most building plans, grinding is the right call.

When a footing, slab, or utility line runs straight through where the stump sits, we excavate the stump and major roots out entirely. We will tell you which approach your project needs when we look at it — and price it honestly either way.

Why Not Leave the Stump?

In the Louisiana climate, a rotting stump is an open invitation to termites and carpenter ants — and that is the last thing you want near a house. Stumps also sprout suckers, harbor fungus, and make a lot impossible to finish.

Grinding it out removes the problem and gives you back usable ground. We can haul off the grindings or use them to backfill the hole and level the spot, leaving it ready for sod, a concrete pad, a fence line, or new landscaping.

Call (985) 966-2584

How far down do you grind a stump?
Typically several inches below grade — deep enough to plant grass, lay sod, or finish the area. If you are pouring concrete or setting a footing over the spot, we can grind deeper or excavate the stump out entirely.
Do you remove the roots too?
We grind the stump and the surface and feeder roots around it. Deep roots are left to decompose naturally, which is normal practice. When a build requires it, we excavate the major roots out as well.
What happens to the grindings and the hole?
Your choice. We can haul the grindings off, or use them to backfill the hole and level the spot. Most homeowners have us backfill so the area is ready to seed right away.
Can you grind a lot full of stumps after clearing?
Yes — that is a common follow-up to land clearing and forestry mulching. We grind the whole lot down, clean it up, and grade it so you end up with finished, build-ready ground instead of a field of stumps.
How much does stump grinding cost?
It depends on the number of stumps, their diameter, and access. One stump is a quick job; a cleared lot is priced as a package. Either way you get a free, firm estimate before we start.
